Rest, Reset and Really Good Views: My Solo Trip to Corfu

Rest, Reset and Really Good Views: My Solo Trip to Corfu

Summer is my busiest season managing a cafe by the beach, so back at the start of the year I made the very wise decision to book myself a little mini break. I knew that I would need a few days to properly switch off and, wow, I'm so glad I did. Corfu Old Town gave me the slow, sun-soaked reset I didn't realise just how much I needed.

Last week I stayed in Corfu Old Town from Monday to Friday, and let me just day - it was magic! I usually go for fast-paced city breaks filled with museums, galleries and endless walking. But this time, I wanted something slower, softer and completely relaxing. And Corfu delivered exactly that.

From the moment I arrived, I was in awe of how stunning the island is. The buildings were beautifully aged and filled with characters and the sea was so warm and clear that you could see the bottom - something we don't experience here in England. And of course the town was full of charming cats lazing in the sun. It really felt like something out of a story book.

Thanks to the heat (which I underestimated when booking...), I spent my afternoons hiding away in the cutest little apartment - which happened to have the most unreal sea view that I didn't even realise came with it. Those midday hours were spent reading, doodling and letting my brain breathe.

My mornings were for exploring. I'd dip in the sea, wander narrow backstreets, visit small museums, grab iced drinks and just let myself enjoy the quiet pace of it all. One of my favourite moments was climbing the Old Fortress, which gifted me with the most beautiful view of the town and sea combined.

Evenings were simple and slow - dinner alone (something that I'm finally feeling confident enough to enjoy), followed by a walk along the water, where I'd sit and read as the sun dipped below the horizon.

One of the standout moments of the trip? A boat trip to Paxos, a smaller island south of Corfu. We explored the stunning charming town of Gaios, and then went for a swim in the most Pinterest-worthy water I have ever seen! I didn't expect to be jumping off a boat into the sea on this holiday - but I did and it was incredible. That moment felt like the very definition of freedom.

I didn't realise just how much I needed this trip until I took it. It gave me space to reset, reflect and soak up a different pace of life - something I often forget to do when things get hectic.

So here's your reminder: take that break. Even if it's just a few days. And if you're looking for somewhere to fully unwind, Corfu Old Town is where you need to be. Sea views, sunshine and salty swims this is truly the place to embrace the quiet magic of doing absolutely nothing.
